Overvaal Stereo strives to promote the Language, Culture and Religion of the Christian Afrikaner with an audience of 54 000 listeners. Creating opportunities for the people to participate in the programs and to keep the culture, religion and language alive broadcasting in Afrikaans and English. Overvaal Stereo started broadcasting as Radio Koppies on December 6, 1993. However, regular broadcasts only started in February 1994. In 1996 the studio moved to Viljoenskroon and as a result of confusion, the name was later changed to Overvaal Stereo.

This name has been chosen by the listeners. Overvaal Stereo is a welcoming friend to the listener and at the same time an excellent marketing medium for the business community. Overvaal Stereo is one of the largest African community radio stations with a coverage area including Ventersdorp, Orkney, Leeudoringstad, Wolmaransstad, Hartbeesfontein, Klerksdorp, Potchefstroom, Stilfontein, Viljoenskroon, Bothaville, Edenville, Koppies, Heilbron, Vredefort, Vereeniging, and parts of Randfontein. Coverage spills into parts of North West Province.
